9 Lessons Learned After 9 Years of Marriage

Have Sex Often

Having sex in a marriage shows you care for the others needs and brings you closer together.

Communicate Obsessively

Make sure your significant other knows how you are feeling in all aspects of life. If you are tired, sick, restless, happy, sad, or all of the above, it is good to openly communicate your feelings and ask for help when you need it.

Lift Each Other Up

Highs and lows in life can be frequent and disappointment is no stranger to all of us. Be that person that lifts each other up in sadness, and celebrates when there is a win.

Honesty is THE Best Policy, Even When It’s Hard to Break The Bad News

There were times where one of us were overreacting, wrong, or trying to get even at someone when the energy put into certain relationships was not worth their time. Be honest with your partner in all aspects of the relationship, but be respectful and do not blame.

Be a Great Follower and a Great Leader

Over dominating all the time is not necessary. Respect each others space, time, and decisions, and be there for each other in times of need.

Forgive Fast

Harboring illwill causes sickness and pain. People are not perfect. Even you. Even me. We all make mistakes, and although you may not ever feel like you can forgive, it is healthy to do so. Eventually. Hehe.

Hold Each Other To High Standards

Set the bar higher each day and help each other achieve their goals. But don’t do it for them, be the Tony Robbins you always wanted.

Want the Other Person to Win, And Cheer Them On

When one wins, we all win. Want the other person to win, and support their goals and achievements. It is best to set yearly goals and back them out quarterly, monthly, and daily to help gain momentum and keep accountability.

Make Your Marriage Your Highest Priority

Jobs and friends come and go, marriage is an infinite union of God. Honor it.

Process Your Anger for FREE via ACOA Zoom Meetings

Most of America is super angry at the start of fall this 2020. And we need an outlet desperately. If you are angry, look no further than group ZOOM meetings for ACOA’s.

ACOA stands for Adult Children of Alcoholics. ACOA’s are a lovely creative bunch. Despite unfortunate circumstances, ACOA’s have or have had an alcoholic in their lives that they cannot seem to control. Their qualifiers could be any alcoholic family member, spouse, or friend that has an issue with alcoholism.

Alcoholism is an addiction to alcohol. The alcoholic could be sober or drunk now, but the goal of the ACOA meetings is to turn to yourself and focus on what you can control.

2020 has been a crazy year and many are feeling angry, repressed, sad, and hopeless. This can turn into unhealthy rage especially with alcohol and drugs involved.

The good news is you are not alone.

There are many FREE meetings out there that can help you process your pain and anger in a more healthy way with set boundaries to help you heal.

The amount of TIME you put into it is completely up to you, as you can choose the recovery meetings you attend and the ones you do not.

The basis of the group meetings is to hear each anonymous members issues with the alcoholic.

Everyone goes by first name only, and since there are only ZOOM calls available now it is through video calls. Here you can decide whether or not to show your face. This is great as it gives you the ability to listen to other stories that should be somewhat relatable to your experience.

Since everyone is on a first name basis, there is complete anonymity and you can reach out to those people that have provided their phone numbers. If they respond, they are willing to help. If they do not, they are not comfortable and you can reach out to the next person on your phone list.

The first ACOA meeting can be scary. What will people think of me? Will they judge me? Will they not like me?

Fortunately these groups are based on unconditional respect and love for one another where you are not allowed to cross talk about others while you decide to speak.

That’s another good part of the meetings. You can decide whether to volunteer to speak or just listen. That part is completely up to you, and if you do not share the group cannot make you.

The meeting starts with the mantra about only being able to control yourself and no one else. It then will transition into a volunteer reading ONE of the 12 steps to recovery.

This spearheads the meeting where the main leader will choose a person to speak if they volunteer. The focus should be on yourself when you speak and how you are feeling in the present moment. If you’d like you can disclose who your qualifiers are, meaning some folks have qualifiers that are parents, friends, girlfriends, and more.

If you do not want to talk, so be it!

It is interesting to listen to each persons experience, and understand where they are at within their own recovery. You can relate it to your experience and get a better understanding of where you can improve yourself too.

Al-Anon Group Meetings span far and wide.

How You Inadvertently Support Discrimination Daily

You buy into immoral narratives that are wrong.

You steal from others without remorse.

You are what you eat, you are what you read.

You over indulge and do not respect your body.

You do not set or respect healthy boundaries.

You bring out your own internal frustration by blaming others for your failures.

You cheat the system, and expect to win by robbery.

You exploit others for your own personal gain.

You attach to others success rather than creating your own.

You hoard knowledge, but are happy to receive it.

You play flipside of a coin and are two faced, where you can’t look at yourself in the mirror.

You bring others down with you to not take responsibility for what you’ve allowed in your life.

How you do one thing is how you do everything. Go forth with compassion.
