5 Ways to Beat the Holiday Blues

1. Allow Yourself to Feel Sad + Journal

Feel your feelings and remember to breathe. Stop. Feel what you are feeling. Write about your troubles to release them. Ask yourself, what do you have control of now? I have found that if you take inventory of your feelings, you can better understand your triggers. Be gentle on yourself. You don’t need to be perfect. You are the best you you can be.

2. Meditate + Pray

Meditation is a great way to relax. Unplugging your mind and slowing the obsessive thinking down by meditation really helps. Even if it is is for 5 minutes, it can help release the negative thinking. Giving up your feelings and thoughts to your higher power will help you release the burden to God.

3. Spend time with loved ones via video or phone call

Spending time with family and bigger groups is limited this year, so it’s a great time to catch up with old friends via call or video chat. We plan on calling family and singing Christmas songs to anyone that will listen. It is a thoughtful way to connect with others, and helping others be more cheerful will help you be cheerful too.

4. Get creative with art therapy

I can’t tell you how much fun it is to create art as an adult. I use crayons, paints, watercolors and colored tissue paper can do. If you wet a paint brush and rip up colored tissue paper, you can paint water on it and it turns into paint. It is so much fun and with all that colored tissue paper around it is a good way to get creative and get outside of your brain.

5. Pamper yourself

Find your most luxurious robe, your favorite silly socks, and your favorite pajamas and get them on. Put your feet up and and pamper yourself with a mud mask, steam cloth on the face, floss your teeth, cut you nails, and give yourself a spa day. You deserve it.
