I don’t know about you, but I have always had trouble wondering what to eat to feel good and keep a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI).

When I was younger I had no problem keeping thin. I was an athlete, doing gymnastics over 35 hours a week, actively cheerleading, and having a great time.

Once I turned 30, my body changed but my diet didn’t. I continued to eat fast food, pasta, bread, and cookies, thinking that as my body grew older it would continue to process the same food the same way. Boy, was I WRONG!

I loved to eat sugar and had no idea the negative impacts it was having on my health. Not only was I gaining weight, but I was feeling sluggish and my cholesterol was sky high. I needed a change.

I tried many fad diets from the Hollywood Liquid Diet to Weight Watchers, and nothing really worked for me. I’d lose weight, be really strict, all to gain it back once I was over it.

I experimented all through my 30’s and nothing has worked better than the Paleo diet. The paleo diet, or the paleolithic diet, focuses on eating everything that is not processed. No sugar, bread, rice and alcohol.

At first the blocked food categories scared me, but I carried on and gave it a shot.

I started with the Whole30 diet (a stricter Paleo diet) first. This helped me detox from sugar, and you find out how evil it is when you get massive headaches as you ween off of it.

After two rounds of the Whole30 diet, I started the Paleo diet.

I lost over 35 pounds this year and am finally in my normal healthy weight range.
