‘It works if you work it, and your worth it,’ I said on a 12-step anonymous fellowship. I had hit rock bottom. And I drowned. I needed a life raft, but first I needed to show up.
The National Library of Medicine notes the following – studies indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic is associated with distress, anxiety, fear of contagion, depression and insomnia in the general population and among healthcare professionals. Social isolation, anxiety, fear of contagion, uncertainty, chronic stress and economic difficulties may lead to the development or exacerbation of depressive, anxiety, substance use and other psychiatric disorders in vulnerable populations including individuals with pre-existing psychiatric disorders and people who reside in high COVID-19 prevalence areas. Stress-related psychiatric conditions including mood and substance use disorders are associated with suicidal behavior. COVID-19 survivors may also be at elevated suicide risk. The COVID-19 crisis may increase suicide rates during and after the pandemic. Mental health consequences of the COVID-19 crisis including suicidal behavior are likely to be present for a long time and peak later than the actual pandemic. To reduce suicides during the COVID-19 crisis, it is imperative to decrease stress, anxiety, fears and loneliness in the general population. There should be traditional and social media campaigns to promote mental health and reduce distress. Active outreach is necessary, especially for people with a history of psychiatric disorders, COVID-19 survivors and older adults. Research studies are needed of how mental health consequences can be mitigated during and after the COVID-19 pandemic (health reference here).
The pandemic has brought us all and unexplainable amount of pain and anguish. FEAR, also known as an abbreviation for False Evidence Appearing Real, has controlled us. We are overcome by it, and the perpetuation that we are not all connected is just plain malarkey with a capital M.
‘I just really felt all alone, and no one would understand my pain. No one could help me,’ said Marcia Jones. She was no stranger to looking ahead and fearing the worst. ‘I just didn’t know where my future would be, whether or not I would have to move, and the after effects on my family and career.’
And many still stay concerned for their future.
What is a 12-Step group?
A 12-Step group is a step by step process to help people restructure their mind, body, and souls to set them up for success. Most of our behaviors are unconsciously taught to us as we grow up. Our parents, friends, and schoolmates teach us the rules. But when we suffer, where will we can help?
The human condition suffers. It is a natural part of life. However when suffering gets unmanageable, it’s time to let go of our EGO and stop Edging Out God. This is a similar acronym in a 12-step recovery program.
From codependency to mental illness, these daily virtual meetings can help you rebuild your life again. And no you are not meant to do it on your own.
