Our kitchen is so old. It has wood cabinets that are painted white, but with all the use over the last four years it has become a bit chipped. The wear and tear is really visible. Good news is that now we have the time to redo it! We have come up with a few vision boards and kitchen design ideas to come up with a great battle plan to make it look shiny and bright!
We just had the dishwasher replaced with a new stainless steel model, so that was a big upgrade however it still wasn’t doing the trick. We still need to replace our refrigerator, but we are holding off as long as possible since it still has a few years of life in it.
We wanted to upgrade our kitchen, but we didn’t know where to start. I ended up doing a ton of research online looking at kitchen design ideas and was able to pull together a clear vision board to put us on the right direction.
I started off by imagining my kitchen with less storage. I found this picture of a clean air filter with the exposed brick painted white in the background. I loved the idea of having a hanging plant on the side, and also loved the idea of having open shelves with the spices we used. So from this picture we decided to knock out the cabinetry that we were not using.

Next I started looking at other darker based kitchens that had a huge window near the sink. Our kitchen also has a window near the sink. I liked the look of the tall cabinets and the crown molding on top of it. Problem was our kitchen was smaller so having the bigger cabinets was something that would not work for us.

Next I looked at bigger island kitchens that had a sink within it. I loved this idea, but there was no room for an additional sink. We loved the look of the lighting too. We are fans of modern looking country houses and we really liked this

Next I really liked the idea of knocking out the cabinets above the oven. The kitchen is very small, so the idea of having an open shelving unit with a nice piece of artwork and some plants looked really cool. I really admire the tiling in the back as well.

Next I really like the idea of using the space underneath the sink in a smart way. Right now we store our laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent there, otherwise it really is dead space in our kitchen. This picture has a neat garbage disposal and dishwasher. Moving the garbage to underneath the sink could be a good idea if we couldn’t smell it, but I think it is nicer to not have to smell the garbage under the sink in the kitchen.

I am really looking for some cool kitchen design ideas for small kitchens and came up with this article from House Beautiful here and this article from Architectural Digest too.
Have you redone your kitchen? What have you added or removed to make it look cleaner and roomier?
