Presidents’ Day is an American Holiday that became a national holiday in 1879 by Rutherford B. Hayes. He wanted George Washington’s birthday to be a holiday. It used to be called Washington’s Birthday instead of President’s Day. Then came so disagreements. In 1968 some people tried to change it to the third Monday of February instead of February 22nd. People didn’t agree on who to celebrate. They didn’t know which Presidents’ to celebrate. Some thought we should celebrate Abraham Lincoln. Some thought we should celebrate George Washington only. Some people thought all Presidents should be honored.

Some people believe that it should be called Washington’s Birthday. Some thought it should be called Washington’s and Lincoln’s Birthday. Some thought it should be spelled President’s Day others thought it should be written as Presidents’ Day. Many stores have major sales and schools have off since it is considered a federal holiday.
