Netflix Presents Outlander Series Review | Leverage Ambition

What a beautiful series! Netflix is currently running the Outlander series. It takes place before and after World War II, where the main character plays a nurse during the war.

The series song is lovely an old Scottish folk song, altered by Bear McCreary for the Outlander series.

Here it goes from Lyrics On Demand:

The Skye Boat Song

(Originally a Scottish folk song, altered by Bear McCreary for the show)

Sing me a song of a lass that is gone,
Say, could that lass be I?
Merry of soul she sailed on a day
Over the sea to Skye.

Billow and breeze, islands and seas,
Mountains of rain and sun,
All that was good, all that was fair,
All that was me is gone.

Sing me a song of a lass that is gone,
Say, could that lass be I?
Merry of soul she sailed on a day
Over the sea to Skye

Unaltered version by Robert Louis Stevenson:

[Chorus]
Sing me a song of a lad that is gone,
Say, could that lad be I?
Merry of soul he sailed on a day
Over the sea to Skye.

Mull was astern, Rum on the port,
Eigg on the starboard bow,
Glory of youth glowed in his soul,
Where is that glory now?

[Chorus]

Give me again all that was there,
Give me the sun that shone!
Give me the eyes, give me the soul,
Give me the lad that’s gone!

[Chorus]

Billow and breeze, islands and seas,
Mountains of rain and sun,
All that was good, all that was fair,
All that was me is gone.

Now to the story with the main character as Claire Randall, played by Caitriona Balfe. She finds herself transported back to Scotland in 1743 during the Jacobite risings, soon after her husband reunite after World War II. She is a time traveler and unluckily transports to a dangerous time in Scottish history. There was an uprising attempt by Charles Edward Stuart to regain the British throne for his father James Stuart. They launched the rebellion in the Scottish Highlands and there was a massive bloody political war.

Claire’s childhood was far from the norm. She was a smart young lady that traveled with her father doing archaeological digs around the world. An unconventional childhood, she is known to smoke and laugh with her father. It is shown that Claire was very interested in the healing properties of herbs and soon became a nurse.

The scenery is quite delightful as the rolling hills and mountains of Scotland are lovely, and the castles exquisite. This historical piece is well heard where the music has an old traditional Scottish edge.

I would give this a 4 out of 5 series, just because it is so long! I keep wanting to know the fate of Claire as she travels among Scotland through the dark times of history.
