I have to say finding the right diet was really hard. Being almost 40 next year has done some weird things to my body. Anything I eat is clearly visible on my body soon after, and eating clean is the only way to keep staying within my healthy weight range while also maintaining a clear mind.

Have you experienced carb fog before? Carb fog happens for me when I indulge in things like pizza. Pizza is heavy loaded with white flour and after I eat it I get really tired and blah. I hate the blahs.

Another crash food for me is sugar. Sugar is not my friend, although if you told me this when I was 8 years old you’d never get me to quit Red Fun Dip. When I eat sugar now, I get an extreme high and then an extreme low. This yields a more moody me, and makes me a bit of a nightmare to be around. I don’t show up well when tired.

The last crash crap food for me is dairy. This was one I never thought I could give up. I was not born in the 30’s however we did have a milk man growing up that would deliver it in glass bottles daily. Soon after the cardboard milk cartons would come out. If you told me one day I’d quit drinking dairy, I would have laughed in your face. The reality is my metabolism changed dramatically as the years flew by and especially after kids I needed to feed myself things that gave me energy continuously rather than temporarily.

The reality is the Paleo diet may not be for everyone, and it’s important to talk to your doctor before changing your diet. I find that this diet is easy to stick to, and there are variations that can be done that are right for you. Sometimes I use butter and that is a form of dairy. Sometimes I need white rice and that’s a complex carb that is not allowed. I never eat sugar other than from honey though (for the moment), and I do not eat bread. There are breads that are Paleo friendly, so if leaving bread is not an option for you you can look into it.

I wanted to make it easy for people that want to try Paleo to have a clear and full grocery list for the week. I didn’t have one when I started and it was hard finding everything I needed for the week by copying and pasting from different sites around the web.

I highly suggest you start with a round of Whole30 first. I say this because it really helped me incentivize me to continue to eat healthily as I lost about 18 pounds in the 30 days of the Whole30 diet. Some do more than one round before going to the Paleo diet. This rids your body of sugar. You see how bad sugar is for you when you get headaches in the first few weeks of the Whole30 diet.
