How much crap doth be thrown at us from this ungrateful world this year? (INSERT YOUR BEST SHAKESPEAREAN VOICE HERE).

Too much crap, in my humble opinion and it’s time for war.

With the 2020 shitshow of unemployment at an all time high, parents homeschooling their children, we are clearly feeling the nasty effects of dirty politics and unethical health business practices that have affected our mental, emotional and overall well being.

But with that have no fear, Stacy is here with 10 coping skills to help guide you through the holidays.

1. Get out of denial with the Serenity Prayer

Accept the fact that you are where you are and instead of playing the victim, play the forever learning card instead.

We are only in this plane for a limited period of time, and it ain’t over until it’s over.

We only have the control to control ourselves, and no one else.

This is why the Serenity Prayer is a great tool.

Repeat after me, God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

2. Stop internalizing your fear and stress and start speaking up by asking for help

Asking for help is a strength, but a weakness as we may have been taught initially. There is power with asking for help, and if you cannot rely on friends or family you can create your own in group therapy. Alanon.org and many other self help groups have online zoom calls during the pandemic that are anonymous and are there to help you heal your wounds. It is a rough year for everyone, so it’s time to admit it and move on with therapy so we can heal these nasty inner demons.

3. Submit your fears to your higher power and know that all trials are temporary if you let them be

The only permanent thing holding you back is yourself. Know that each moment we have here on the planet is a new moment to adjust our sails, and change the outcome. Only we have the power to make these changes as they are internal and should be responsibly broadcasted with care.

4. Would you talk to your best friend they way that you talk to yourself?

The answer is maybe, maybe not, but go easy on yourself and know that no one got from point A to point B without a plan. Also known that plans change, change is a constant, and we must move on to keep our mind, body and soul moving. Duh, we’re not statues! (Well yet anyways! 😂)

5. Feed yourself with healthy food to keep you energized and stable

Fatty foods, sugar and carbs inhibit us from living are best lives. Stabilizing your diet and detoxing from carbs and sugar help overall moodiness. If you are looking for a diet change I’d suggest calling your doctor. I love the Whole30 diet and have done it many times to help detox my body from sugar, but also helping my mind heal from the nasty effects sugar has on the brain. In between I do the Paleo diet, and stay away from drugs and alcohol as they are depressants and have a negative effect on mood.

6. Drink plenty of water and watch the sunset

Both are great ways to get you out of your internal crappy house party and into fresh air, where the ocean and sun always make me feel alive again.  Staying hydrated and drinking 8 glasses of water a day also keeps your mind and body healthy and happy.

7. Understand that everything is temporary

Nothing is permanent if you let it be, and changing your circumstances is up to you only, no one else. Take control of your life and stop blaming others for your misfortune. Pony up! What would Mr. Ed do?

8. Make a plan, and reevaluate it as you go, making shifts for the better

There are no mistakes, only lessons.

9. Get a good night’s sleep naturally

The only way to do this is by eating and drinking well, and moving during thebday. With COVID here, many are paranoid and in self paralyzation mode. Fear will do weird things to you a d your brain, and it is time to get out and make a move. Making that first step is always the hardest but let’s start with baby steps. One day at a time, and one thing at a time. I would recommend streaming YouTube sleep videos as well, there are plenty great ones that will help you feel more relaxed and peaceful as you get some zzz’s!
